Before you begin…
Prior to unpacking your LobbyGuard Defender you should prepare the area where you will be placing the kiosk. Please reference the LobbyGuard Defender Site Survey document available here for complete instructions on what is needed in terms of physical space, power, internet connectivity and other important considerations.

Important: Do not attach the power cable to the Defender until instructed to do so in Step 5, below.
Unpack the items in the Dymo printer shipping box:
You should find the following:
- Printer
- Printer power cable
Step 2: Printer Setup
Remove all plastic wrapping and packing material from the printer, including any paper or badge stock on the inside of the printer.
Unpack the printer power supply from the box in which it is packaged and plug it into the port located on the bottom of the printer as shown below.
Place the printer on a flat surface. Attach the printer power cable to the printer power supply and plug the printer power cable into a standard wall outlet. The front light on the printer should illuminate blue to indicate power on.
Load a roll of visitor badges into the printer. Remove one of the rolls from the black plastic bag in which it is stored and load the roll into the printer via the instructions below:
Open the lid of the printer to gain access to the spool
Lift the spool up and towards you to remove from the lid
Pull on right side of spool to remove wheel
Load roll of badges onto spool with badges feeding from the bottom of the roll
Re-attach wheel and place spool back into lid
Insert first badge into the printer feed slot. Press the blue button on the front of the printer twice. A badge should feed through the printer, indicating successful loading of badges. Tear this badge free and dispose. Close the printer lid.
Attach the printer to the Defender.
Attach the USB cable into the white USB port located on the base of the printer as shown below. Be careful to not unplug the USB cable from the Defender while performing this operation.
Step 3: Keyboard and Internet
Wireless Keyboard
Unpack the included wireless keyboard and switch the power to the “ON” position. The power switch is located on the forward section of the keyboard. Instructions on pairing your wireless keyboard can be found here.
The right side of the keyboard includes a mouse touchpad and left/right mouse buttons.
Internet Connection
Your kiosk will be required to have a full-time connection to the internet for initial registration and daily use. The LobbyGuard Defender only provides support for wired internet connectivity. Depending on the nature of your LAN / computer network you may need additional configuration to complete your internet connection, including IP address settings and other details specific to your environment. Consult your Information Technology staff for further details.
The included Ethernet cable comes connected to the Ethernet port on the LobbyGuard Defender kiosk as shown below.
Step 4: Physical Adjustments and Cable Management
Physical Adjustments
The stand on which the Defender is mounted allows for forward/backward, left/right and angled tilt as well as height adjustment.
Adjust the kiosk to the appropriate height by loosening the knob on the reverse of stand. Raise/lower the kiosk to the desire height and tighten the knob.
Adjust the left-right screen angle to insure the screen is parallel to the countertop or mounting surface.
Adjust the screen tilt by pulling the bottom of the Defender bezel while pushing forward on the top of the. The visitor should be able to tilt the screen in this manner to adjust for his or her height and the Defender should maintain the desired angle.
Step 5: Attach Power Cable and Power On
Attach Power Cable
The lower back panel will need to be removed by unscrewing 2 screws using a Philips head screw driver. Attach the power cable to the power adapter and plug the cable into the surge suppressor. Failure to plug the LobbyGuard Defender power adapter into the provided surge protected will void the warranty for the LobbyGuard Defender.
Plug in the Ethernet cable and surge protector to a known working outlet and wall port.
Your LobbyGuard Defender Kiosk will not power on as a result of plugging the power cable into the surge protector. You will need to press the power button on the Defender that is located on the lower left hand corner of the kiosk when facing the rear.
The LobbyGuard Defender will launch Microsoft Windows and will automatically launch the LobbyGuard software without any user input. Do not use the keyboard or mouse and do not power down the kiosk during the boot process.
