This document provides step-by-step instructions for converting your older LobbyGuard Scout kiosk to a new Dell All-In-One PC. This conversion provides you with a larger screen, a new manufacturer product warranty through Dell and a higher level of overall performance. If you need assistance at any time please contact support@lobbyguard.com
Schedule the Software Installation
You must schedule a time for the installation of the LobbyGuard software on your new PC. The LobbyGuard software is installed via remote session by a LobbyGuard Technical Support Representative. Visit www.lobbyguard.com/schedule to schedule your software install. NOTE: YOU SHOULD HAVE COMPLETED THE STEPS IN THIS DOCUMENT AND HAVE YOUR PC OPERATIONAL AND ONLINE AT THE TIME OF THE SCHEDULED INSTALLATION OF YOUR SOFTWARE.
Before getting started
Remove the scanner bracket from your LobbyGuard Scout kiosk and unplug the visitor badge printer from the LobbyGuard Scout. Both of these items will be needed in this conversion. You must also schedule a time for the installation of the LobbyGuard software on your new PC. The LobbyGuard software is installed via remote session by a LobbyGuard Technical Support Representative. Visit www.lobbyguard.com/schedule to schedule your software install. NOTE: YOU SHOULD HAVE COMPLETED THE STEPS IN THIS DOCUMENT AND HAVE YOUR DELL PC OPERATIONAL AND ONLINE AT THE TIME OF THE SCHEDULED INSTALLATION OF YOUR SOFTWARE.
What you will need
You should have the following items available prior to starting this conversion. These products are not available through LobbyGuard and should be purchased through your vendor of choice:
- Philips screwdriver
- Velcro – LobbyGuard recommends the “EZ Pass Mounting Kit - 3M Dual Lock Tape - Peel-and-Stick Strips with Alcohol Prep Pad” product.
- Dell Inspiron 24 3000 Series Touchscreen All-In-One
Step 1: Unpack and setup the Dell PC
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for unpacking and physical setup of your Dell PC. Please note that you should have the PC connected to the internet using the included Ethernet adapter. LobbyGuard does not support WiFi connectivity.
Step 2: Remove the bar code scanner from the scanner bracket
Using the Philips screwdriver remove the two screws holding the bar code scanner to the scanner bracket as illustrated above. If you have not yet removed the scanner bracket from your LobbyGuard Scout you should do so before attempting this step.
Step 3: Attach the Barcode Scanner to the back of the Dell PC
Using an alcohol cleaning pad clean the back of the bar code scanner to remove any dirt or dust particles. Prepare the area on the back of the Dell PC in the same manner, focusing on the following area of the PC where the bar code scanner will be positioned:
Attach the bar code scanner to the above area of the PC using the velcro adhesive. Use the below image as a guide for placement of the scanner:
Step 4: Attach the bar code scanner, printer, Ethernet and power cables
Attach the bar code scanner and the visitor badge printer to the USB ports located to the right of the Ethernet port on the rear of the Dell PC as shown below. Do not use the USB ports located on the side of the PC. Note that LobbyGuard requires the use of a cabled / Ethernet data connection and does not support WiFi.
Step 5: Attach Wireless Keyboard
Attach the included wireless keyboard dongle to the PC using one of the USB ports located on the side of the PC. Note that you should not leave this item attached during regular use as visitors are signing in and out of your building; LobbyGuard provides an on-screen keyboard for visitors when input is required. You should only attach the included wireless keyboard and mouse when you are working with a LobbyGuard Technical Support Representative.
Step 6: Installation of the LobbyGuard Software
At the time of your scheduled software installation (see above) you should open a web browser on the Dell PC and visit help.lobbyguard.com. Click on any of the LobbyGuard representatives that are online. You will be presented with the option to “save” the file. After you click “save” you should redirect to your “downloads” folder and run the file previously downloaded. Once a LobbyGuard representative accepts your remote session request you should provide you first and last name, as well as the approved scheduling request that was sent to you when you scheduled the software install.
